West Ham United Women secured their first points of the season with a 2-1 home win over London City Lionesses. The victory at the Chigwell Construction Stadium on Saturday afternoon ended a run of two consecutive defeats to start the campaign.

Karla Gago opened the scoring for the hosts in the 21st minute, finishing an assist from Sophie Piubel. Viviane Asseyi doubled the lead early in the second half, converting a pass from Riko Ueki. The visitors pulled a goal back through Daniëlle van de Donk with just over a quarter of an hour to play, but West Ham held on for a key three points.

Bouncing back

The result provided a vital response after a difficult opening day. West Ham had begun their WSL season with a 3-1 away loss to Tottenham Hotspur the previous weekend. Asseyi was also on the scoresheet in that match, netting a late consolation goal. The win moves the team off the bottom of the early standings and builds momentum ahead of the next fixture.

Saturday's match was the first WSL home game of the season for West Ham United Women. The club had encouraged supporters to attend, with adult tickets priced at £15. The full list of upcoming matches is available on the club's fixtures page. The team will look to build on this positive result when they continue their league schedule next weekend.
